Karate Equipment

Karate equipment runs the gauntlet from the simple to the exotic, from the necessary to the situation-specific items. Some of the most basic pieces of equipment are uniforms, punch and/or kick targets, and tote bags. Other basic gear is protective in nature such as helmets, mouth pieces, shin and hand guards, and floor mats.

Protective karate equipment is essential to safely train students. You don’t want to have a student with a concussion because they didn’t know what they were doing and weren’t wearing a padded helmet, or were practicing on a hard surface instead of a mat. Even masters wear mouth guards and padding when sparring because of the force of the blows often directed at the head, torso, or other vulnerable areas.

The more functional or situational gear includes things such like punch and kick targets. Useful especially for beginners and intermediates who require a visual aid for their practice; these targets are either held by an instructor or on self supporting stands. The stand variety is adjustable for different student sizes as well as a variety of moves.
